Why Isn't Your Website Showing Up on Google? 5 Common Causes

Your site exists but Google acts like it doesn't. These five causes explain almost every case — and each has a concrete fix.

Almost every 'invisible website' comes down to one of five causes: it's not indexed, it's too new, it's too slow, it says nothing Google can rank, or it's competing for words it can't win. Here's how to tell which is yours.

1. Google hasn't indexed it

Search site:yourdomain.com. Zero results means Google doesn't have your pages at all — often a missing sitemap or a leftover 'noindex' setting from development. Fix: submit the sitemap in Google Search Console.

2. It's simply too new

New domains take weeks to earn positions. That's normal. Speed it up with a Google Business Profile and a few real links pointing to you.

3. It's too slow or broken on mobile

Google ranks the mobile version of your site. If it loads slowly or breaks on a phone, you're penalized before content is even considered.

4. The pages don't answer anything

A homepage that only says 'Welcome to our website' gives Google nothing to rank. Pages need to answer real searches: what you do, where, for whom, at what price range.

5. You're fighting the wrong keywords

You won't outrank national brands for 'insurance'. You can absolutely win 'insurance broker for freelancers in Brussels'. Specific beats big — pick searches you can own.
